MILO Woman.

I am no stranger to Milo events. As a teenager, I loved to join beauty pageants. In fact in 2001, I represented our school for the Milo Little Olympics and won the best muse award. Eleven years after I am still very active in a Milo event, but this time, the 21K Milo Marathon! With hard work and perseverance, I was able to finish on time to earn my ultimate goal, the finisher's medal with time to spare! For me it is more than enough reason to celebrate, this is what I trained for.

Joining the Fit Filipino Movement of Coach Jim Saret and later on becoming an assistant Coach for Metabolic Fitness Boot Camp in Cebu made me become stronger, fitter and healthier. Being a serious marathoner is not that easy. Once you start running 10K and beyond there are several things you need. The need to have a good training, the need to tune your legs for an uphill and downhill routes... Of course your body needs to have enough sleep and carbohydrates, Carbo loading at least 2-3 days before the run is a good preparation. I also find time to search the web for some good running tips. They really help.

Always remember, when your legs are tired run with your heart. Until now, I still couldn't imagine myself joining marathons. It was a huge turnaround from being a girl who just loved to eat and now running 21K marathons. Watch out 42K!

Best Times:

32K: Citigym Halloween Run 2012 (4:38 min)

25K: 3 Bridges University Run (3:13:51)

21K: 36th Milo Marathon (2:25:59)

16K: Run for Justice (1:54:43)

12K: Hunat Sugbo (1:24:00)

10K: Armscor Run (1:07:15)

8K: Run for Gifted Kids (1:01:00)

6K: World Heart's Day (39:13:15)

5K : 2 Heart's to Beat Charity Run (28:49:69)

Amazing Weekend.

It really feels good to be a podium finisher!
The day before the run I was sick, I had fever and an upset stomach. I felt awful and weak but still I was really hoping and praying that I can run during the weekend. It would be my first ever back to back weekend run.

Saturday dawn, before the race I took medicine just to make sure that I would feel better during the run. I put my very best and pushed myself to the limit despite my fever and miraculously I finished 3rd! Yes! My very 1st podium finish at a time of 1:08:34. I was in the 3rd place of the 10K Women's Category, Born in Cebu Maternity House Run.
Came Sunday the next day, I was once again getting ready for World Hearts Day run. I just ate peanut butter and bread, took my meds one more time to make sure that I will have a smooth run. Feeling sick during the run would be a huge problem for any runner.

When the race started I tried not to walk and just do a sprint and jog combination. The training that we had in Maria Luisa really helped me a lot especially during the uphill part. However, I had to walk when I reached the 2nd water station (4km) for 30 seconds then did a sprint and jog combination again. I finished the 6K run in 39:13:15 and ranked 6th place in women's open category.
Looking back, it was indeed the most amazing weekend for me as a runner. Being sick and all, I knew that God was with me that weekend. Without him, I wouldn't even have the strength to finish the race.

During the awarding.

25K - 3 Bridges Challenge

My first 25K run! Indeed a very exciting one, the 7th University Run - 3 Bridges Challenge. The thought of running and passing through the 3 bridges of Cebu made it very interesting. When I heard the gun start, my heart was beating fast. I had doubts if I can make it to the finish line and was hoping my right knee pit will not sore. When we reached 10K, my left foot started to hurt coz' of blisters. Yes! I got 2 blisters on my left foot and 2 on my right. I was hoping I would pass through an ambulance so that I could ask for a band-aid. I did but unfortunately, they ran out of band-aids so they just gave me an adhesive tape. I made it to the first and second bridges despite of the blisters... On my way to the third bridge, the sun was already up and shining. Thanks God I bought a cap the day before the run. I wore it as I passed the Liloan bridge. I tried to finish 21K in 2 hours and 30min but I was 7min late of my target. I need to train harder to reach that goal. More push on my next run. Bad news was, I encountered a similar issue on my previous runs. I don't know why but I always found it hard for me to sprint on the last kilometer. So I just did a jog and walk as I crossed the last kilometer to the finish line. Yes! I did it! I got my first 25K Finisher's Medal. It was all worth it despite the 4 blisters.

Run for Pinoy Glory 2012

My first solo 16K run. I was used to having a running partner since the day that I started joining fun run that was why it was really hard for me to run solo. I spoke with Coach Eric Limatog, sharing with him all my running experiences, from my first run until the latest. I Told him that I wanted to move up. He told me that I needed to run solo because it's not all the time that I will have a running partner and plus I can do my own strategy and PR(Personal Record), and he was right. Yesterday(July 7, 2012) I did my first solo run for Pinoy Glory and it was for my first 16K! I couldn't imagine my self running solo and on a 16k category. Thanks to Coach Alan Choachuy who was there during my first 5k and to my Mom and Pocahontas(our helper) who was there to support me bringing coleman, food and a mat(as if nag picnic). I thank God for giving me all these people who supported me and made my first 16K run a memorable one. I had fought a good fight. I survived, SOLO.

UP Run High 2

Excited and scared, that was the feeling that I felt before the run. UP run was my first 12K with an up hill and down hill route. Very exciting huh?! I was excited thinking that I'm moving up to the next category but at the same time scared because I'm not yet sure if my body and hamstrings can take it. My mind said go but my body said I don't know.hahaha I did carbo loading 3 days before the run. On the day of the run, I was so excited seeing my friends and coaches from FITFIL getting ready, doing the warm up and chatting with each other. Run started 5:30AM, from UP to Convergy's banawa, turning point, then on our way to Marco Polo, that was the part were I really needed to walk since it's up hill. When I approached the turning point going back to UP, I grabbed the opportunity to do a sprint since it was a down hill and I needed to cope up with my PR. I was so tired, exhausted and hungry but I did it! Finished it in 1:29min. It was indeed a great experience.

Midnight Beer Run Experience.

Midnight Beer Run was one of the most unforgettable run that I had. When I heard about the run I was so curious that I had to check it online and researched about the run. It was the country's first midnight beer run and I wanted to be part of it. The day before the run, i already had pictures of the venue in my mind, beers around, lots of people, hydration stations serving beer instead of water and i was asking my self, "how can I survive without water?" Haha! Exage ra kaau! Of course there was water! I went to the venue with my friends Jaja, Maica, Clarence and Ken. We were so early that we forgot that the gun-start will still be at midnight. Haha! We waited for hours and was so hungry. Craving for bbq, pizza, spaghetti, almost everything.. Finally, it was almost midnight and my energy went up, we did the warm up exercises and took a lot of pictures and stayed at the front of the starting line(feeling pro).hahaha! It was totally an awesome experience, running in the middle of the street with lots of people on the sides (like sinulog) cheering for you. Near the finish line, we needed to crawl! it was really hard for me but fun. After crossing the finish line there were people waiting, giving us glasses of beer. Nah, I declined of course! Haha! I'm not a beer drinker. If it was a shot of tequila then... we wouldn't know.haha! It was indeed an unforgettable experience. Till' next year.

My First Fun Run.

I was so excited for my first fun run. March 25, 2012, was my first fun run this year. The last run I could remember was when I was still in high school. I joined Milo Marathon and i needed to be on the top 100 finishers so that i can get a certificate and have a grade of 90.hahaha Now, I'm back to running but not because of the grades but because i just wanna have fun and stay fit. On your first run, just enjoy every moment of it and don't worry about the time. I suggest your run with friends, colleagues or family so that when you feel tired you can slow down and chat with them. Ohh by the way, don't forget to do dynamic stretching (warm up) before you run because it will help you increase the blood flow to your muscles, which in turn enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients. It also prepares you mentally for the run. You need to cool down after running as well because it helps your heart rate and breathing return to resting levels. I finished my 5K run with Globe's Run for Home in 37min, not bad for a first timer.

More to come! : )
